	McMoRan engage in the exploration, development and production of oil and natural gas offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore in the Gulf Coast area. We have one of the largest acreage positions in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Coast areas, which are our regions of focus. Our business strategy is to create value through exploration activities and to exploit and develop our existing property base. Our technical and operational expertise is primarily in the Gulf of Mexico. We leverage this expertise by attempting to identify exploration opportunities with high potential, high risk drilling prospects in this region. We continue to focus on enhancing reserve and production growth in the Gulf of Mexico by emphasizing and applying advanced geological, geophysical and drilling technologies. Our exploration strategy, which we refer to as the “deeper pool concept,” involves exploring prospects that lie below shallower intervals on the Deep Miocene geologic trend that have had significant past production. A significant advantage to our “deeper pool” exploration strategy is that infrastructure is in most cases already available, allowing discoveries to be brought on line quickly and at substantially lower development costs than discoveries in previously unexplored areas. We believe our techniques for identifying reservoirs below 15,000 feet by using structural geology augmented by 3-D data will enable us to identify and exploit additional “deeper pool” prospects. In addition to our oil and gas operations, we are pursuing the development of the Main Pass Energy Hub™ (“MPEHTM”) project for the development of a liquefied natural gas regasification and storage facility through our other wholly-owned subsidiary, Freeport-McMoRan Energy LLC. The MPEHTM project is located at our Main Pass facilities located offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, 38 miles east of Venice, Louisiana. Following an extensive review, the Maritime Administration (“MARAD”) approved our license application for the MPEHTM project in January 2007. The MPEHTM facility is approved with a capacity of regasifying LNG at a peak rate of 1.6 Bcf per day, storing 28 Bcf of natural gas in salt caverns and delivering 3.1 Bcf of natural gas per day, including gas from storage, to the U.S. market.
	Syntroleum Corporation is in the business of monetizing remote and/or stranded natural gas. It is the developer, user and licensor of the Syntroleum Process, a proprietary process for converting natural gas (or synthesis gas from coal) into synthetic liquid hydrocarbons - a process general known as gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology. We employ our technology to form joint ventures and acquire equity in oil and gas development projects where GTL is critical to a project's success. We also license the Syntroleum Process to others. Syntroleum's unique capabilities enable us to offer attractive solutions for natural gas reserves (including flared gas) that are not economic to produce using traditional methods. The Syntroleum Process produces synthetic liquid hydrocarbons, also known as synthetic crude oil, that are virtually free of contaminants that are normally found in products made from conventional crude oil. These synthetic liquid hydrocarbons can be further processed into higher margin products through conventional refining techniques, including Syntroleum's proprietary Synfining Process. These products include: Ultra-clean liquid fuels for use in internal combustion engines and fuel cells; Specialty products such as synthetic lubricants, process oils, waxes, etc. Costs to produce these products using GTL technology are increasingly competitive with conventional process technologies. Moreover, the ultra-clean properties of GTL fuels meet or exceed the new and proposed environmental requirements that will soon go into effect for the U.S. and Europe.
